Today marks the conclusion of the 11th week since SiteFever.com went online. In those 11 weeks, we have seen 108 posts and 929 comments. 18,224 unique visitors have stopped by SiteFever.com for a total of 29,467 visits. However, we’re going to have to bid farewell.

It’s off to the Andes Mountains and the Amazon River for me. After much thought, I’ll be moving there in about two weeks and believe it or not, the Internet is not readily available in the middle of the rainforest. As for the current 1TB contest, I will pick a winner and send the hard drive next week before I leave.

It’s been an exciting journey up until now, but hopefully another great blogger will take the reins from here. To help fund my trip, SiteFever.com is priced for a quick sale at $1,250 US. Included would be the domains SiteFever.com, SiteFever.info, SiteFever.net and SiteFever.us, and the entire contents of this blog. Here’s an overview of some statistics other than the ones already mentioned:

Total 11 week income: $1,136.78
Technorati authority: 204
Technorati rank: 22,556
Alexa rank: 73,129
Google Pagerank: 2, predicted 5 (4.8)
Yahoo backlinks: 4,512
RSS subscribers: 318
MyBlogLog community members: 135
My 22 page PDF “Blog Traffic Made Easy” has been downloaded at least 1,196 times since its release on August 21.
SiteFever.com has been featured on two separate posts on JohnChow.com: Post 1 Post 2

If you’re interested in purchasing SiteFever.com for the asking price of $1,250 or if you would like to make an offer, you can contact me at jrobinson@sitefever.com.

Thank you all for your support of this blog, and I hope that I brought some valuable information that many of you can apply with your online ventures. I’ll be checking up on SiteFever.com from time to time from cyber cafes in South America to see how its new owner is doing. Who knows… maybe I can appear as a guest blogger every once in a while!

Congratulations to Robert MacEwan from MacEwan.org! He won the only sitewide 468×60 banner on this site for only $100/month! Everyone should be looking for his banner to start appearing soon. Thanks to all who participated.

Sorry for the lowered posting frequency over the past two days. My great grandfather was in from out of town and I haven’t seen him for several years, so we were spending some time together. I’ll start pumping out some more great articles this afternoon.

Thanks to you, SiteFever has just been exploding lately, both in popularity as well as with “happenings”- there are lots of things taking place here and I just wanted to be sure everyone was included in them all.

First off, if you look in the right hand column just underneath the 125×125 banner ads, you will see the clock counting down the exact time that the offer will end for you to bid on my banner. Currently, the high bid stands at $100 for 30 days of the only sitewide 468×60 banner on SiteFever.com. The bidding will end midnight EST on Thursday.

Secondly, Blog Traffic Made Easy has now received 1,200 downloads in exactly four weeks since its release date. I’ve received a ton of great comments about the 22 page PDF, and if you have not had a chance to read it yet I would hope you take a few minutes to check it out.

Thirdly and probably the most talked about right now is the contest I’m holding where you can win a 1TB (1,024GB) hard drive just by linking to the contest on your blog and telling everyone what you would do with it if you were the winner. So far, the contest has been a big hit! I’ve got a ton of pingbacks to sort through already, and I’ve got to say I’ve seen some pretty unique ideas… Hopefully if you haven’t posted about it yet you can come up with something catchy.

As I mentioned earlier, SiteFever.com is just exploding in popularity faster than I can keep track of it. I’m glad I had the knowledge to set myself up on a dedicated server early in the game! To get a quick idea of what I’m talking about, take a look at SiteFever’s Alexa chart. Over the past five days, SiteFever has averaged over 570 unique visitors per day! Of course at the end of the month, I will post a full report as I always do which will show all the details of our monthly traffic.

Well, consider this your five minute update on all the “happenings” at SiteFever.com. Thanks again to all my advertisers, sponsors and especially my readers who have come to appreciate this blog for what it is.

Okay, well I really don’t want you to send me your spam- but I do what some information from it! I’m putting together a list of the top 100 blog spammers of all time. Here’s how it works:

Every time you receive a spam post on your blog, report the IP address and/or the domain name they want you to visit to me either by replying to this post or via the contact me page. After enough submissions I will figure out who is sending the most spam to us blog owners. I will perform a WHOIS lookup for each domain name and IP address to find out who owns the domain and where their site is hosted. Then, I will post the finalized list- “The Top 100 Spammers of the Blogosphere”.

Once that list is published, we can all use it to send emails to the abuse department of the hosting companies these sites are using. We can also send the spammer some email of our own, when I can locate their email address, telling them what we think of what they’re doing (in so many words). It will also be a great list of IP addresses for us all to add to our .htaccess file to ban them from our blogs altogether.

I have been cracking down on some of the spammers visiting SiteFever over the past few weeks. I must say that this has brought some measure of success. I can track three websites that I know of for sure that have been taken offline because I have reported the matter to their hosting company. On one occasion, I was receiving spam emails from a college student using his university assigned .edu subdomain (what an idiot) to post a bunch of garbage about the prescription drug Cialis. Well, needless to say, after a long talk with the universities technical support department, this guy landed himself in a big mess.

I really think that this list will be beneficial not only to us blog owners but also by putting all the information about these frequent spammers out in the open to expose who they are and what they’re doing. This should help take a few more of them offline and off our blogs.

So the next time you catch spam posts on your blog, be sure to get the IP address and advertised domain name and send it to me! Be on the lookout over the next week or so for the release of “The Top 100 Spammers of the Blogosphere”.

Starting today, there are four more sites to add to the SiteFever network! I thought I would quickly mention each one here since today is their grand opening:

 1. InstantTLD.com
Instantly search for domain name availability of .com, .net and .info domains.

2. SilentIP.com
Fast, free proxy to surf the web with another IP address. Get around blocked sites at school & work, or just simply hide your real location.

3. VerifyPR.com
Quickly gives you the current GooglePagerank for any domain name on the Internet. Also shows the average amount of backlinks and Alexa rating with each search.

4. Small1.com
Make any URL small! This tool can also be used to mask affiliate links. All Small1.com URL’s will remain online forever, so you don’t have to worry about them being deleted later.

Hopefully, there will be something there that you will find helpful. All of the above tools are totally free to use. As with any website, there’s always plenty of advertising space to go around! Between the four sites, I have a total of 77 spots available to purchase advertising. Many of the spots have already been filled, but if you see any you might like, just let me know.

And to think that Mikael was wondering why I own so many domain names… :) I don’t pay for all these servers & IP addresses for no reason!

13 people had something to say. What do you think?

If you’ve been visiting SiteFever for more than a couple days, you should already know that I am totally obsessed with statistics, charts and reports. I believe that I owe much of the success of this blog so far to my keeping track of visitor trends and responding to them as I feel appropriate.

A few days ago I decided to use CrazyEgg.com to keep track of the click activity on my homepage. Here’s what the report shows after 1,000 visitors:

This first image is what CrazyEgg calls a “heatmap”. It’s like a thermal camera tracking the “hotspots” on your webpage. The colors change depending on how many clicks a particular spot receives.

This second image is of the same report, only it specifically shows you the exact location of each click on the page, and who clicked there. As you can see, the top banner, RSS buttons, navigation menu and macewan.org’s banner seem to be the most active.

What makes reports such as these so useful? Well, you can visually track which links and banners on your site are receiving the most clicks. One thing I found interesting in my report is that although the entire 468×60 banner at the top of the site links to the same page, there seems to be a cluster of clicks over the small part that says “click here”. Proof that what I said before about telling people what to do with a “call to action” actually works!

Speaking of that banner, you might have already noticed the counter in the right hand column. It’s counting down exactly how much time remains to bid on my banner for one month. So far, the top bid sits at an even $100. I wonder who will win SiteFever’s first auctioned ad space???

You can create a free account with CrazyEgg.com that will allow you to track a few thousand visitors per month and create reports such as the one I just did. Why not give it a try and let us know how it went?

Many website owners find themselves having more trouble than they originally planned when attempting to rank well in the search engines. Others don’t understand why their AdWords campaigns charge so much for their keywords. The reason could very well be that the website is using a homograph.

A homograph is a word that has the same spelling as another, but different meanings. For example, if you owned the domain “LeadInformation.com”, would you be providing sales leads to business people or giving warnings of the dangers of lead paint in toys from China?

The problem with homographs is if you are trying to optimize your website in the search engines for a specific niche, you could be competing with an entirely different market at the same time. This could put a big dent in your marketing plan!

So, before you register your next domain name or jumpstart your next advertising campaign, check twice to be sure you’re not using a homograph or you could find yourself competing against an entirely different market than you had planned on!
